Pune: In preparation for the Lok Sabha elections, the District Collector’s Office has issued orders enforcing restrictions on alcohol sales on designated days. These directives are applicable to the Baramati, Maval, Pune, and Shirur constituencies.

The State Excise Department, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerates, and District Police Superintendent’s offices have been duly notified. On May 5th, 6th, 11th, 12th, and 13th, as well as on June 4th, days earmarked for polling and vote counting, alcohol sales will be prohibited. Any contravention of these orders will be subject to the jurisdiction of the respective local authorities, as outlined in the directives.

To comply with the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha general elections, the polling and vote counting days have been designated as dry days. District Collector Suhas Divase has issued this order under Section 135(C) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Alcohol sales will be prohibited 48 hours before the scheduled conclusion of each polling day. Additionally, orders pertaining to the declaration of dry days on polling and vote counting days have been issued in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

During the third phase of polling in Pune district, including the Baramati Lok Sabha Constituency, and in the fourth phase encompassing Maval, Pune, and Shirur Lok Sabha Constituencies, all domestic and foreign liquor manufacturing units within these constituencies will be permitted to operate.

However, they will not be allowed to serve alcohol on the designated dry days. Any violation of these orders will be met with strict action under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949, and the relevant provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, with jurisdictional inspectors bearing full responsibility, as stipulated by District Collector Suhas Divase’s directives.
