Pune, April 1, 2026: In a significant development, the state Home Department has cleared senior police officers Amitabh Gupta and Jalinder Supekar of allegations related to the controversial arms licence approvals linked to the Vaishnavi Hagawane case.

The case had come under scrutiny following the suicide of a married woman, after which allegations surfaced that Supekar had misused his position to facilitate arms licences for relatives. The controversy had led to his transfer to a less significant post pending inquiry.

However, after a detailed investigation, the Home Department concluded that no irregularities were found in the issuance of arms licences during the tenure of both officers. Officials clarified that all 433 licences were granted strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Arms Act 1959 and the Arms Rules 2016.

The decision brings major relief to both officers, who had been facing serious allegations for nearly two years. It also paves the way for their possible reinstatement to key positions, as discussions around their rehabilitation gain momentum in police circles.

Additionally, inquiries by the Anti-Corruption Bureau found no evidence of disproportionate assets against officials involved, and no formal complaints were registered against Supekar. Authorities have now officially closed the investigation into the matter.
