The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) are at odds over road excavation in Sadashiv Peth, leading to wasted resources as the deadline approaches.

MSEDCL hurriedly dug up the road from Tilak Smarak temple to Perugate police chowki within three days to utilize funds before the fiscal year-end on March 31. Despite receiving permission on March 15, excavation began on March 22, causing unnecessary expenses and disrupting the new road.

Saheb Rao Dandge from the PMC road department criticized MSEDCL for delays in payment and lack of communication, resulting in penalties.

MSEDCL defended its actions, citing permission to replace a faulty underground cable. Despite paying charges and receiving written consent, work was halted halfway on PMC’s orders.

This incident highlights PMC’s new mandate for coordination between excavating agencies and the road department.

Civic activist Vivek Velankar condemned the lack of coordination, emphasizing the waste of public funds.

The situation underscores the importance of efficient coordination between civic authorities and utility companies to prevent disruptions and resource wastage.
