The Udaan Biodiversity park in Viman Nagar, Pune is a well known place where people in the nearby localities head to for walks, exercises, meditation and yoga practices.
Filled with medicinal plants like Ashwagandha, Tulsi, Chamomile flower, etc, the place provides the much-needed relief for city dwellers, living among concrete structures. The park also produces manure within its premises.
Visitors to the park are appreciative of the knowledge placards placed along the walking tracks. Every plant has a signboard which reveals its benefits. A Braille code attached to the signboards is a very thoughtful move by the authorities, feel residents.
“The park has been systematically built, with trees surrounding a garden with a beautiful fountain in the middle. I love this place,” said a resident.
The watchman of the park proudly revealed that only organic fertilisers are used. The park has been functional since 2012 and it has been maintained well. Regular visitors to the park demand exercise equipment.
“I love my job as it helped me transform as a person. I have lost 27 kilograms of weight in five years, thanks to my yoga practice sessions. I have found inner peace by staying close to nature. More people should make good use of this park and emerge healthier,” said the watchman, who was not willing to reveal his name.
The park is located close to CCD chowk in Viman Nagar.
It is jointly managed by Zensar Foundation and Pune Municipal Corporation
The information boards here are available in Braille too.
One can adopt as well as drop plants at the park.
The garden was inaugurated in 2012.
It is special because it is created by transforming a rocky patch of land into an eco-system where various species are survive.
