Pune, May 4: A brief moment of misjudgment during a train halt turned into a distressing ordeal for a family travelling on the Vande Bharat Express, after a father was left stranded on the platform while his three-year-old daughter remained alone inside the moving train.
The incident occurred at Kurduwadi Railway Station when Rahul Khurmute, who was travelling from Solapur to Mumbai with his young daughter, stepped down onto the platform to buy biscuits after the child complained of hunger. Within seconds, the train’s automatic doors shut unexpectedly, and the train began to move, leaving Rahul helplessly behind.
Child Alone in Coach C-5 Sparks Panic
The toddler, seated on seat number 30 in coach C-5, began crying inconsolably as she realized her father was not around. Alert passengers quickly noticed the situation and informed Travelling Ticket Examiner H. L. Meena, who immediately escalated the matter to the Pune railway control room.
Using reservation details, railway officials managed to trace Rahul Khurmute and establish contact, ensuring coordinated efforts to secure the child’s safety.
Swift Action by Railway Police in Pune
Upon receiving the alert, the Railway Protection Force and railway police in Pune acted promptly. The child’s mother, Vaishali Khurmute, was contacted and asked to reach Pune railway station before the train’s arrival.
As the train reached Pune, officials safely escorted the frightened child and handed her over to her mother. The emotional reunion saw the young girl break into tears of relief upon seeing her mother.

The Khurmute family expressed deep gratitude towards railway authorities and police personnel for their swift and humane response, which ensured the safe reunion of mother and daughter despite the tense situation.
