Pune Breaks Cold Wave with Fog; IMD Predicts Warming Trend

After two days of intense cold, Pune experienced a noticeable change in weather this morning as a thick layer of fog blanketed the city between 6 am and 7 am. While the chill in the air persisted, it was significantly milder than the previous days, offering a calmer, though still cool, atmosphere across the city and its surroundings.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a gradual rise in minimum temperatures across Maharashtra over the next three days. Light rainfall is also expected in regions such as Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada. During this period, minimum temperatures are anticipated to increase by 2°C to 3°C.

Recently, a cold wave gripped the state, with temperatures dropping below 10°C in several regions, including Pune. Dense fog and hail were also reported in areas such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalgaon, and Parbhani during the early morning hours.

According to the IMD, this change in weather patterns is attributed to the development of cyclonic winds in Southeast Iran and Southwest Rajasthan, which have altered atmospheric pressure. These changes are expected to align the western and eastern winds, thereby reducing the intensity of the cold wave. As a result, minimum temperatures across the state are likely to rise by approximately 3°C in the coming days.
