Pune, April 27, 2026: In a major development for city infrastructure, work on the underground Metro corridor between Swargate and Katraj has gained momentum, leading to significant changes on Satara Road. As part of the project, several Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus stops located along the central corridor are being removed.

The decision has been taken by MahaMetro to facilitate the construction of Metro stations and underground tunnels, which will run beneath the main road. Since many BRT stops are located in the middle of the road, they are being dismantled to make space for the project.

Authorities have already started removing BRT stops at Shahu Colony and Natraj Baug, while the Bibwewadi stop has been shifted to the footpath. Commuters will now have to wait for buses on the roadside instead of the central platforms.

Officials said similar changes will be implemented at other locations including Market Yard, Padmavati, Balaji Nagar, and Katraj in a phased manner.

The removal of dedicated BRT lanes is expected to impact traffic flow. With buses now operating in mixed traffic instead of a separate corridor, there are concerns that congestion on Satara Road may increase, especially during peak hours.

MahaMetro officials stated that once barricading for Metro construction begins, available road space will be used for traffic movement to minimise disruption. However, commuters have been advised to expect delays and plan their travel accordingly.

The ongoing Metro project is expected to improve long-term connectivity in the city, but in the short term, residents and daily commuters will need to adjust to these changes.
