Pune: Builders Accused Of Violating Water Supply Affidavits In Pimpri-Chinchwad; Residents Seek Compensation
Pimpri-Chinchwad, March 31, 2026: Serious allegations have surfaced against builders in Pimpri-Chinchwad for violating undertakings (affidavits) submitted to the municipal corporation while obtaining completion certificates for residential projects.
According to reports, for housing projects developed after 2016, builders were required to provide water supply to residents at their own expense until the completion of the Bhama-Askhed water supply project (Phase 5 and 6). However, it has emerged that none of the developers have fulfilled this obligation.
Sanjeevan Sangale, President of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Housing Society Federation, has lodged a complaint with the municipal corporation. He stated that due to insufficient water storage, the civic body had issued completion certificates to projects only after obtaining written guarantees from developers. Despite this, builders have allegedly failed to ensure water supply as promised.
As a result, thousands of housing societies across the city are forced to purchase water privately, leading to a significant financial burden on residents.
The federation has demanded that criminal cases be registered against the concerned developers under the Indian Penal Code. It has also called for reimbursement of the expenses incurred by housing societies on water supply so far.
Additionally, the federation has urged the civic administration to deny future construction permissions and completion certificates to builders who fail to comply with their undertakings.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of concrete action despite multiple meetings with municipal officials, the federation has now appealed to the newly appointed Municipal Commissioner to take strict action in the matter. The demand for immediate administrative intervention to ensure justice for residents is gaining momentum in the city.
“Builders in Pimpri-Chinchwad have blatantly violated the undertakings given to the municipal corporation. Despite a clear responsibility to provide water supply, they have failed to do so. As a result, residents are forced to buy water at their own expense, increasing their financial burden. We strongly demand that the administration take this issue seriously, register criminal cases against the developers, and ensure reimbursement of the costs incurred by citizens,” said Sanjeevan Sangale, President of the Society Federation.
