By April 2024, a subway connecting the MSRTC bus terminus on Satara Road with the Metro station should be completed, relieving daily commuter traffic at the congested Swargate Junction (Jedhe Chowk).

The underground station is nearing completion, according to Maha Metro, the company building the subway, and it will soon be accessible to commuters along with the Metro station.

MSRTC and Maha Metro officials had recently discussed the subway plan. One subway entry/exit point would open at the MSRTC terminus, and the other would open at the concourse of the Metro station. Barricades have currently been erected on Satara Road outside the bus terminal to help with the ongoing construction.

According to a regular traveler from the Swargate bus stop, pedestrians and commuters are at risk due to the current traffic conditions. The constant flow of traffic makes it difficult for people getting off the MSRTC bus stand to cross the road. Completing and opening the proposed subway for public use as soon as possible will be beneficial.

  • The subway will be 50 metres in length
  • It starts from Metro station and ends at MSRTC bus terminal
  • There will be escalators and staircase
  • Subway will take two months period to be complete

Another traveler said that the area was becoming even more chaotic due to the careless parking of auto rickshaws alongside the barricades, autorickshaw drivers driving in the wrong direction, private vehicles stopping at the chowk, and encroachment on footpaths.

As the work is still being done, Maha Metro officials stated that the barricades would remain in place for a few more days. That being said, there are plans to take down the barriers at the locations where the work is finished. In order to complete the work as soon as possible, they are in contact with MSRTC. Non-Metro commuters will also benefit from the subway because they won’t need a Metro ticket to use it.
