During the ongoing special drive that started on February 7, the Pune traffic police have fined a total of 2183 drivers for using modified silencers on their two-wheelers.

Additionally, six car repair shops in the Nana Peth area have received warnings from the police to not to sell modified silencers.

According to a senior Pune Traffic Police officer, drivers who use modified silencers annoy other people as well as contribute to noise pollution and sound pollution. They frequently receive complaints from people who are bothered by motorcycle riders who drive in groups late at night.

The officer added that college and university students are also inconvenienced by these reckless drivers. The worst affected groups are pedestrians and the elderly. They also discovered that because there are no traffic cops on duty at night, drivers are annoying others in quiet areas. As a result, they made the decision to start a special drive to discourage these drivers. The driving licenses of the drivers found to be using modified silencers for the second time will be cancelled, according to a proposal that will be brought before the Pune RTO. The parents of children and teenagers found riding two-wheelers with modified silencers were also called by the police.

The officer further said that they had begun to impound these motorcycles for a full day, taking off their silencers and destroying them. Residents of various localities, including Koregaon Park, Baner NIBM Road, Magarpatta, Mohammadwadi, Kalyani Nagar, Boat Club Road, Katraj, Yerawada, Sinhagad Road etc, have been complaining to them about noise pollution caused by modified silencers on a daily basis.
