Pune: The cause behind the mysterious deaths of pigs in Pune’s Kothrud area has finally been revealed. Post-mortem results confirm that the pigs were victims of poisoning, with traces of the chemical Carbamate found in their organs. In response, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has deployed a rapid response team to investigate further and monitor the area.

54 Pigs Found Dead Since February 6

Since February 6, multiple pig carcasses have been discovered near Bharati Nagar Nala and Bhimale Corner in Kothrud. A total of 54 pigs have died in the area. A post-mortem conducted on one of the pigs revealed the presence of Carbamate, a toxic chemical commonly used in pesticides, indicating intentional poisoning.

Samples Sent for Further Analysis

The PMC’s Animal Husbandry Department collected samples from the pig’s organs for testing at the Disease Control Center. Additionally, blood samples from the pigs have been sent to the High-Security Animal Disease Laboratory in Bhopal for further investigation.

Search for the Source of Poisoning

The PMC Health Department is investigating the source of the poisoning. Water samples from local drains were tested, but no toxic substances were found. This has led authorities to suspect that the pigs were poisoned through contaminated food. The department is also trying to identify the owner of the pigs, but no one has come forward.
