In the upcoming academic year, students from economically and socially backward classes will not be able to gain admission to English-medium schools due to modifications made to the Right to Education Act (RTE). This resulted in a strong sense of discontent among the parents.

A member of the Parents’ Association stated that since the state government has eradicated RTE, low-income pupils will no longer have access to high-quality education. The government has forced private schools to pay enormous amounts of overdue fees, and the new order is unfair to lakhs of students. The institution’s management is upset because of this. The management of the institution is the only one who stands to gain from it, and the students will suffer greatly as a result.

The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE) has been amended by the state’s school education department, meaning that students from economically disadvantaged homes in Maharashtra will not be able to attend private schools starting in the 2024–2025 academic year.

This was released on Thursday in the department gazette.

If there is a government or government-aided school within a one-kilometer radius of the disadvantaged child’s home, the child will not be eligible for an unaided school in his or her area under the 25% RTE quota. Children from this class will no longer be able to attend private schools with an English-speaking curriculum due to the amendment.
