Pune Choked By Dust: PMC To Crack Down On Construction Violations
Pune, December 6: The city of Pune is struggling with rising dust levels due to ongoing construction projects, flyover and metro work, and road repairs. This has caused significant inconvenience to motorists and residents. Despite the situation, construction contractors and builders are reportedly not taking measures to control the dust. Â
To address this issue, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is preparing to issue notices to those responsible, directing them to implement corrective measures. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhonsle has announced a meeting with officials and contractors to tackle the problem.
Areas such as Kothrud, Baner, Balewadi, Warje Malwadi, Karvenagar, Dhayari, Katraj, Ambegaon, Hadapsar, Kondhwa, Mundhwa, Kharadi, Dhanori, Yerawada, Vishrantwadi, and Bopodi are among the most affected. PMC plans to enforce strict actions against contractors failing to comply with dust control regulations.
Major construction, including road, flyover, and metro projects in locations like Sinhagad Road, Vishrantwadi, and Ganeshkhind, has worsened air quality, causing respiratory issues for residents. Pune is now among the top Indian cities suffering from declining air quality due to construction dust.
To mitigate the issue, contractors are expected to use measures such as covering construction sites with sheets, installing green nets, and regularly sprinkling water to suppress dust. However, a lack of compliance has led to deteriorating air quality, prompting the PMC to take stringent action.
