The Net Carbon Neutrality (NCN) chamber will be coordinated by the Office of the Divisional Commissioner with the help of a dedicated working group and a special core committee composed of government officials concerned and some subject experts.

Pune : To make the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) accomplish the mission of Net Carbon Neutrality by 2030, Pune divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao met the members of Pune International Centre to develop a model which could lead to sustainable goals.

Prof Amitav Malik, Dr Gurudas Noolkar, Siddharth Bhagwat, Shalvi Pawar of Pune International Centre were present at the meeting.

Prof Amitav Malik submitted a report with ‘a proposal to establish a carbon accounting and budgeting cell on the lines of annual financial auditing and monitoring system of the Pune Metropolitan Region.’
Pune divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao confirmed to Pune Pulse that the proposal has been approved.

A committee has been formed to achieve the targets set and a quarterly review will be conducted on a regular basis. The Net Carbon Neutrality (NCN) chamber will be coordinated by the Office of the Divisional Commissioner with the help of a dedicated working group and a special core committee composed of government officials concerned and some subject experts.
All organizations in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) will be required to make voluntary as well as mandatory disclosure of carbon emissions to the NCN chamber every year.

Talking about the same, Rao said, “I hope that the creation of a chamber would help to involve all the stakeholders and benefit them from the net carbon neutrality programme. Apart from this, it will create opportunities for carbon accounting and monitoring for the entire Pune district which will be an urban model for others too. This can be leveraged to attract green investors to fund projects. This will be a unique opportunity for the Pune Metropolitan Region to set an example in working towards a National Action Plan on Climate Change and lead on sustainable goals.”
