Justice was served in Pune as a special court sentenced 40-year-old Kundalik Gulabrao Jadhav to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2020. The court also imposed a monetary fine on the convict, reinforcing the stringent measures under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The case came to light when police received a complaint on August 27, 2020, regarding an incident in Rajiv Gandhi Colony, Tarwade Vasti, Mohammedwadi. The Wanowrie Police Station registered the case under the relevant sections of both the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the POCSO Act.
The investigation began under Police Sub-Inspector Abhijit Jogdand and was later completed by Sandeep Warpade, who submitted the chargesheet to the court. During the trial, Special Public Prosecutor Milind D. Datrange presented the prosecution’s case with witness testimonies and collected evidence.
After examining the evidence, the special court found Jadhav guilty of multiple offences under the POCSO Act, including aggravated sexual assault. He was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with financial penalties. Failure to pay the fine will result in additional jail time, as per legal provisions.
The conviction was achieved under the supervision of senior officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Rajlakshmi Shivankar, Assistant Commissioner of Police Namrata Desai, and Senior Police Inspector Bhausaheb Patil of the Wanowrie division.
