Pune, 17 June 2024: Cybercriminals stole ₹19.96 lakh from a 34-year-old Bavdhan resident’s bank account and took out personal loans totaling ₹48 lakh in her name from various sources between October and December last year.

According to the authorities, the thieves accessed the woman’s bank’s mobile app using her phone number. They also registered four bank accounts in her name, which were used to transfer the loan amounts.

A Hinjawadi police officer reported that the complainant, who works for a private firm, holds an account with a private bank’s Hinjawadi branch. On December 28th of last year, she received a notification from her bank about the amount taken from her account.

In her complaint, the woman stated that she only received three alerts from the bank regarding the transactions. However, bank records indicate that 402 messages were sent to the number linked to her bank account, corresponding to each transaction.

The officer further noted, “Loans worth ₹48 lakh were taken in her name from 30 private financial institutions between November and December last year.” The investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the culprits.
