Pune, August 4, 2024: In a disturbing incident that has raised significant concerns about public safety in Pune, Anu Sharma has reported a brutal attack on her son, a 21 year old. The assault, which took place on Sunday afternoon in the Dhanori area, has highlighted severe lapses in law enforcement and systemic issues within the police department. The incident began with a minor dispute that quickly escalated into violence. According to Sharma, a group of individuals forcibly entered their residential society and assaulted her son. The attackers also issued grave threats, including threats to Sharma’s life and horrifying threats of gang rape.

“My son was brutally beaten by three adults,” said a distraught Anu Sharma. “This raises serious questions about the safety and law enforcement in our city. The Police didn’t allow me to put my views about the incident. My son was going out to meet his friends. When he was driving unknowingly he splashed water onto the guys who attacked him. But these guys, driving triple seat, allegedly under influence of alcohol, without helmets attacked my son. Fearing their attack on the car, my son came back home. But these guys chased him in the society and also damaged our society gate too. They beat my son brutally. I am seeking help from Police as I haven’t received complete justice to my complaint,” she added.

Sharma has expressed profound disappointment with the police response. She claims that despite the severity of the incident, including the forceful entry into a private residential area, the police have been reluctant to file a proper First Information Report (FIR). Additionally, she noted that a language barrier has impeded effective communication with the authorities.

Key Issues Highlighted By The Incident:

  1. Law and Order: The brutal attack underscores the urgent need for improved safety measures for Pune’s citizens, especially women and children.
  2. Outsider Stigma: The Sharma family’s ordeal reflects a troubling perception that non-locals are more vulnerable to such violent incidents.
  3. Police Accountability: The reported inaction and indifference of the police force have significantly undermined public trust in local law enforcement.
  4. Language Barrier: Difficulties in communication due to language differences have hindered the Sharma family’s ability to seek justice effectively.

Anu Sharma is demanding a thorough investigation, the immediate arrest of the attackers, and stringent action against those responsible. She is also calling for enhanced police response protocols and greater sensitivity towards non-native language speakers. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents voicing their fear and anger over what appears to be a rising crime rate in the area.

While the police have registered a complaint, the Sharma family continues to push for a formal FIR and a comprehensive investigation into the attack.

Multiple attempts to reach out to the Police failed as there was no response.
