Pune District Collector Responds to Metro Eco Park Concerns in Ravet, Asks To Maintain Trees

In a recent development, concerned citizens representing various groups including the Metro Eco Park Bachao Samiti and Green Army, convened with the Pune District Collector on Wednesday, February 14th, to address several pressing issues pertaining to the Metro Eco Park in Ravet. The meeting resulted in immediate directives from the District Collector to ensure the proper maintenance of trees within the park.

Prashant Raul, Founder of Green Army, expressed the citizens’ grievances, highlighting discrepancies in information provided to the authorities regarding the park’s condition. Raul presented evidence including RTI documents, media coverage, and photographic proof of the park’s neglect, emphasizing the urgent need for action.

Despite initial concerns raised by the District Collector regarding security and the park’s intended land use, a positive outcome emerged from the meeting. The Collector agreed to allow a limited number of citizens to inspect the park, acknowledging the need for transparency.

However, dissatisfaction remains as citizens found the park’s condition to be far from satisfactory during their visit, with numerous trees discovered to be dead. In response, the District Collector expressed frustration with park maintenance and pledged personal funds to address the issue.

Prompted by citizen pressure, the District Collector issued immediate orders for the trimming, watering, and overall maintenance of all trees within the Metro Eco Park. Furthermore, citizens voiced their intention to oversee the maintenance work to ensure accountability.

Hemant Sambhus, a leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in Pune, echoed citizen concerns over the prolonged closure of the Metro Eco Park and emphasized the importance of tree preservation.
