Pune: Dr Kailas Kadam Resigns As Pimpri-Chinchwad City Congress President
Pimpri, Pune | December 23, 2025: Dr Kailas Mahadev Kadam has resigned from the post of President of the Pimpri-Chinchwad City District Congress Committee. He submitted his resignation on Monday to Congress National General Secretary and MP K.C. Venugopal.
Dr Kadam was appointed as the city Congress president on October 7, 2021, on the instructions of then Congress President Sonia Gandhi and National General Secretary Rahul Gandhi. He took charge of the organisation at a time when the party was going through a transitional phase and worked to strengthen the Congress at the grassroots level and expand its reach across households in the city.
In his resignation letter addressed to K.C. Venugopal, Dr Kadam cited personal reasons for stepping down and requested to be relieved of his responsibilities as city president. He clarified that while he has resigned from the post, he will continue to serve the Congress as a primary member.
Speaking to the media, Dr Kadam said he has been actively associated with Congress work in Pimpri-Chinchwad and the industrial belt since his student days. He highlighted his organisational journey, including his role in local body elections since 1997, contributions to winning multiple corporator seats in various wards, and his tenure as group leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. He also recalled contesting the Chinchwad Assembly seat in the 2014 elections.
Dr Kadam stated that the party had entrusted him with the responsibility of city president considering his organisational skills during a challenging period for the Congress, and he made every effort to contribute to the party’s growth. He reiterated that his resignation is limited to the post of city president and that he will remain committed to the Congress party in the future as well.
