Pune, 1 June 2024: The school education department is planning to introduce a simplified syllabus to provide help to students who failed the SSC and HSC board examinations. The State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT) will provide a ‘capsule’ syllabus that will be uploaded within a week to prepare students for the supplementary examinations in July. This initiative will assist over 2 lakh students who could not clear exams this year.

This is the first time the education department is implementing such a strategy. The state education commissioner, Suraj Mandhare, had suggested this plan to the state board in the previous year throwing light on the fact that almost 90,000 students fail the SSC exam every year and only a handful of them reappear. The SCERT capsule module will prepare the students to clear their failed subjects. This is the first year of this module’s implementation, and the output will decide how effective it proves to be.

The SCERT circular issued on May 28 stated that it is imperative to present the subject material in an easily understandable manner to ensure students grasp the concept, stay engaged, and gain enough confidence to reappear for exams. This support is critical to make sure students don’t drop out of school or face disruption in their educational endeavors.

Schools can also support such students by providing one-on-one guidance and organising regular sessions to prepare them for re-examinations which occur in June and July.  This year’s SSC result was declared on May 27 and HSC results on May 21 respectively.
