Pune : Election of co-operative societies postponed amidst Lok Sabha elections

The Maharashtra State Government has postponed the election process of co-operative societies till 31^st May 2024, citing Lok Sabha elections 2024.

As per further information from the state government order accessed by Pune Pulse,

At present, as per Phase 01 to 06 and E-1 2023, out of 93,342 co-operative societies eligible for election at the end of 31.12.2023, the election of 50,238 cooperative societies has been completed and the election process of 10,783 cooperative societies is ongoing. Also, the election process of 20,130 co-operative societies is still pending, and a total of 7,827 co-operative societies are eligible for election in the year 2024.

In accordance with the Lok Sabha elections to be held in the year 2024, the services of the officers/employees of the cooperative department have been acquired by the concerned collector for the pre-election work of the Lok Sabha, and the posts of officers/employees are vacant at the taluka, district and regional levels of the cooperative department.

Accordingly, in order to carry out the election process of all cooperative societies in the state in a smooth, transparent and fear-free environment, as per the rules, the state government have decided to postpone the elections in Section 73 of the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960, except for those co-operative societies in which the nomination stage has started and also in which the Supreme/High Court has ordered to hold elections, the elections of all other co-operative societies in the state are being postponed till 31st May, 2024 at the stage at which they are from the date of this order.
