Pune: The election of co-operative societies that have more than 250 people living has been delayed by the state co-operative department till September 30.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Suhas Patwardhan, President, Pune District Co-operative Housing Society said, “Earlier, the elections of co-operative societies were going to take place in June itself. However, citing an extreme and swift rise in rainfall in the state, the Maharashtra government has postponed the election process till September 30.”

As per information, there were approximately 83,000 societies in the state that were planning to conduct the polls (excluding those with fewer than 250 members), and more than 49,000 of these societies had already made their voter lists available.

Societies with less than 250 members, societies in which elections have been ordered by the Supreme Court or High Courts, and societies in which elections have been completed with the exception of electing a chairman or vice-chairman must continue with their plans.
