Pune, December 01, 2025: The Maharashtra State Election Commission has postponed the election process for five local bodies in Western Maharashtra, including Baramati, following ongoing court appeals concerning certain seats and presidential posts.
According to an official order issued on Saturday, district collectors have been instructed to halt elections for any municipal council or nagar panchayat where the district court delivered judgments on or after November 22. The earlier election programme announced on November 4 now stands amended for these bodies.
The commission has asked collectors to prepare fresh details of all local bodies where the election of either members or the president has been stayed by the court. In cases involving the president’s post, the commission has postponed the entire election process. Local bodies affected include Baramati, Fursungi-Uruli Devachi, Phaltan, Mahabaleshwar and Mangalwedha.
The order was signed by Suresh Kakani, Secretary, State Election Commission.
Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi confirmed that elections in Baramati and Fursungi have been entirely deferred. In contrast, Lonavla, Talegaon, Daund and Saswad will see only partial postponements, and polling in specific wards will now be held according to a revised schedule. Dudi added that detailed instructions will be released shortly.
In Baramati, voting earlier planned for December 2 has now been shifted to December 20. A total of 42 positions—including the municipal council president’s post—will go to polls. Eight corporators have already been elected unopposed, and their results remain valid. Voters in those wards will now cast ballots only for the president’s post.
In Satara district, elections for both Phaltan and Mahabaleshwar municipal bodies have been postponed entirely due to court orders concerning the presidential seats, issued after November 22. Polling for one seat each in Karad and Malkapur has also been rescheduled. Meanwhile, elections for the Mangalwedha Municipal Council in Solapur district have been deferred in full.
Under the revised timeline, district collectors will announce updated schedules on December 4. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is set for December 10 at 3 pm, followed by the release of the final candidate list on December 11. Voting will take place on December 20 and counting on December 21.
Officials said a comprehensive notification will be issued soon. The sudden shift in poll dates has triggered renewed political activity across the affected regions.
