The 21-year-old engineering student slipped into deep water during an outing with friends, prompting a long rescue operation near Ekole village.

A heartbreaking incident was reported from Mulshi taluka in Pune district, where a 21-year-old youth drowned at the popular tourist spot Lotus Point near Ekole village. The victim, identified as Ayush Harinkhede, was originally from Gondia district and was currently living in the Katraj area of Pune.

Ayush had gone to the scenic location along with five friends for a walk and leisure trip. However, during the outing, he reportedly entered the water despite not being able to swim properly. Within moments, he was pulled into deeper water and drowned, leaving his friends and locals in shock.

The operation continued for several hours due to the difficult terrain and challenging conditions around the lake. Rescue personnel faced major hurdles in locating and retrieving the body from the water.

After nearly nine hours of effort, Ayush’s body was finally pulled out at around 5.30 pm. However, transporting it out of the hilly and slippery area proved even more difficult. Despite the obstacles, the rescue teams managed to bring the body safely and handed it over to Paud Police at around 9 pm.

The tragic incident has created a sense of grief and concern in the region, once again highlighting the risks at unfenced water spots that attract young tourists.
