Pune: People continue to suffer as the maximum temperature of the day continues to remain above 41 degrees Celsius in major parts of the city.

The temperature recorded at 41.8 degrees Celsius in Shivajinagar on Thursday was the highest this summer, so far. This was 3.7 degrees Celsius above normal.

The highest temperature in the city – 44.2 degrees celsius – was recorded at Koregaon Park on Thursday.

“Hot and dry northerly winds are prevailing over most parts of Maharashtra. Temperature is likely to continue to remain high for another two days,” said Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather forecasting, India Meteorological Department, Pune.

“The lack of a weather system is leading to clear sky conditions and maximum solar radiation. This is keeping day temperatures above normal,” said another official from IMD Pune.

The IMD Thursday has also announced an orange alert for heat in many parts of Maharashtra between Saturday to Monday.

As per the IMD forecast, the temperature will continue to remain around 41 degrees Celsius in the city.
