Pune, September 3, 2025: Panic spread in Guruwar Peth early Thursday morning when a fire broke out in the parking area of the Zeba Shelter building, located opposite Chhoti Masjid. The incident occurred around 3:28 am, after flames engulfed the electricity meter box and several two-wheelers parked on the premises.

Thick smoke quickly spread through the building, leaving several residents trapped inside. On receiving the emergency call, a fire engine from the Central Fire Station rushed to the spot. Firefighters immediately began operations, bringing the blaze under control within 10 to 15 minutes.

According to officials, around 46 residents who were trapped in the building were safely rescued and evacuated to a secure location. “The prompt action by the fire brigade ensured that there were no injuries or casualties,” an official confirmed.

The fire, however, caused significant material damage. Four two-wheelers and the meter box were completely gutted in the incident. The swift containment of the blaze prevented the flames from spreading further into the building and causing a larger tragedy.

Authorities are now investigating the exact cause of the fire, though initial reports suggest it may have started due to an electrical short circuit in the meter box.

Residents expressed relief at the timely response of the fire brigade, which averted what could have been a much more serious disaster.
