Pune Flood Alert: Indian Army Mobilizes Flood Relief Efforts Amidst Heavy Rainfall and Dam Discharges
In response to the relentless rainfall in Pune and the release of excess water from Khadakwasla Dam, the Indian Army has mobilized a flood relief column to assist residents in Ekta Nagar. The District Magistrate’s Office requested the deployment of the Army column at 09:15 AM today, triggering an immediate response.
A contingent of approximately 100 personnel, including Infantry Troops from the Maratha Light Infantry, an Engineer Task Force from the Bombay Engineers Group, and a Medical team from the Military Hospital Khadki, has been dispatched to the affected area. The team is equipped with rescue boats, quadcopters, and other essential rescue equipment.
Upon arrival, the relief column commander conducted an initial assessment of the situation in coordination with civil administration. The release of water from Khadakwasla Dam has led to significant water level rises in several areas, including Ekta Nagar.
The Indian Army has begun evacuating residents from inundated buildings and apartments, relocating them to safer locations. Quadcopters and inflatable rubberized boats are being utilized for effective reconnaissance and navigation through the affected zones.
So far, successful rescues have been carried out at Dwarka Apartment, and emergency exits have been created in heavily waterlogged residential buildings to ensure the safety of residents. Additional relief columns are on standby to respond to further needs as the situation evolves.
