Pune: The Forest Department, Pune has decided to restrict access to the Sinhagad Fort every day by establishing an integrated check post at Kondhanpur Phata Gate following various complaints from the local residents regarding some obscene and illegal activities by the visitors.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Pradip Sankpal, Forest Range Officer said, “Integrated staff are deployed at the check post for continuous checking of commuters. In addition to the check post, solar panels have been introduced to supply steady power supply, CCTV cameras have been introduced to improve surveillance of the entire area and Kondhanpur Phata Gate will be kept closed from 6:30 pm to 7 am every day.”

As per the information, the check post office has an assigned space for the staff, and a reliable power source has been guaranteed through the installation of a solar panel system. CCTV cameras have been strategically placed along the roads that surround the check post to improve surveillance.

Previously, visitors, including those engaging in inappropriate activities, had unrestricted access to the checkpoint in Golewadi at the foot of the Sinhagad Ghat road due to the absence of staff at night.

Hence, at the new check post at Kondhanpur Phata gate, the Forest Department has put dedicated personnel to tighten security and keep control over nighttime access to the fort.
