Residents of Viman nagar, Pune, have been grappling with an ongoing garbage problem, which reached a tipping point on Sunday, February 25th. Untreated waste has accumulated outside the backside of Joggers Park Lane, opposite Zeeshan Biryani, prompting concerns about hygiene and health hazards.

Expressing frustration, a resident lamented the persistent situation, highlighting the challenges of navigating through the area due to the uncollected garbage. “It’s a daily struggle, and it’s been over a year now,” she stated, emphasizing the dangers posed to children who frequently play nearby.

Another resident echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the failure of sporadic clean-up efforts to address the underlying issue. The stench and health risks associated with the untreated waste have forced residents to avoid the area altogether.

Assurances from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials, including Vishal Udmane from the Nagar Road Ward Office, promise action to resolve the issue promptly. However, PMC supervisor Kailash Changwal emphasized the importance of citizen cooperation in maintaining cleanliness.

The problem extends beyond Viman nagar, affecting residents across Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Similar piled up garbage was also seen in the lane next to Ibis Hotel, outside Neco Garden on the footpath causing health issues to the residents. The eateries on the Neco Garden road have also been seen dumping their waste on the footpath causing issues to the pedestrians.

Numerous complaints have been lodged, citing not only the foul odor but also health concerns stemming from the breeding of mosquitoes in the garbage dumps.

As the community awaits decisive action, the untreated garbage remains a pressing issue, underscoring the need for collaborative efforts to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents.
