Pune : Ghat areas around Pune city receive highest rainfall in 24 hours, residents advised to exercise caution

Pune: Pune and the surrounding areas witnessed heavy rainfall on Thursday. Several talukas in the district continue to experience continuous downpours. In the last 24 hours, the Tamhini Ghat area in Pune recorded the highest rainfall, measuring 142 mm while Dongarwadi and Dhanwadi received 130 mm and 113 mm of rainfall respectively.

 It is worthy to note that over the past few days, Pune, along with the entire state, has been receiving consistent rainfall.

According to the Meteorological Department, Lavasa received 89 mm of rainfall, Nimgiri recorded 57.5 mm, Lonavala 89 mm, Pashan 7 mm, Shivajinagar 5.9 mm, Vadgaon Sheri 3.5 mm, Hadapsar 4 mm, and Talegaon 17.5 mm.

As rainfall intensifies in the ghat areas, the water storage in dams has also seen a rise. Furthermore, the intensity of rain is expected to escalate in Pune city over the next few hours, with the possibility of moderate to heavy downpours. Residents are advised to exercise caution as road flooding is likely to occur.

The weather department has also recommended avoiding visits to adjacent ghat areas in the coming days due to strong gusty winds accompanying heavy rainfall. These winds have the potential to uproot trees. The weather department has issued a warning, urging citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
