Pune, April 12: The city is witnessing a sharp rise in temperatures, with several areas recording the hottest day of the season so far. On Sunday, Lohegaon recorded a high of 41°C, while Shivajinagar reached 40°C, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data.

Weather officials have warned that the heat is likely to intensify further in the coming days. As per the latest forecast, areas such as Lohegaon and Koregaon Park may see temperatures climbing up to 42°C, while Shivajinagar could touch around 41°C. Night temperatures are also expected to stay high, ranging between 21°C and 26°C across the city.

Other parts of Pune also experienced significant heat. Koregaon Park recorded 39.2°C, while Magarpatta and Chinchwad reported 38.6°C each. The situation was made more uncomfortable due to a sharp drop in humidity levels, especially in Lohegaon where it fell to nearly 15%, indicating very dry and harsh weather conditions.

Weather experts noted a sudden spike in temperatures over the past two days. Shivajinagar, which recorded 39°C on Saturday, marked its hottest day of the season so far. Forecasters say this rise is part of a typical summer pattern, driven by hot and dry northwesterly winds coming from regions like Gujarat and Rajasthan, along with the absence of any active weather systems.

The warming trend is expected to continue throughout the week. Typically, Lohegaon remains 1 to 2 degrees hotter than Shivajinagar, and similar variations are likely to persist.

The IMD has also indicated that there is no relief in sight, with no rainfall predicted for Pune or most parts of Maharashtra in the coming week. This suggests prolonged dry and hot conditions across the region.

Elsewhere in the state, several areas are also experiencing intense heat. Akola recorded 42°C, among the highest in Maharashtra, while many interior districts crossed the 40°C mark. Western Maharashtra, including Pune, Satara, and Sangli, reported temperatures between 39°C and 41°C, while coastal regions remained relatively cooler at 34°C to 35°C due to the sea breeze.
