Pune hosts exhibition on Japanese delicacy, ‘Sushi’ 

Pune, January 10 : ‘I Love Sushi Exhibition 2024’, a travelling exhibition on Japanese delicacy ‘Sushi’ has been inaugurated in the city at Chanakya Building of MIT WPU, Kothrud Pune. 

It is organized by the Japan Foundation in association with the Consulate General of Japan in Mumbai and the Indo-Japan Business Council and will be open to all till January 20th between 10:00am and 5:00pm on all days. 

There is no entry fee. Visitors can look forward to knowing all about ‘Sushi’ via posters, photographs, static and working models and audio-visuals. Please note that it is an informative exhibition about the journey of ‘Sushi’ and ‘Sushi’ will not be available for eating at this exhibition.

The exhibition was today inaugurated today at MIT WPU Campus in Kothrud in the presence of Megumi Hamuro – Council for culture and education, Consulate of Japan in Mumbai, Tomonari Kuroda – Language Advisor, Japan Foundation, Dr. Ravikumar Chitnis – Vice Chancellor, MIT-WPU, Siddharth Deshmukh – President, Indo Japan Business Council (IJBC), Dr. Deependra Sharma, Dean, MIT School of Business, Shefali Joshi, Program Director, Department of Hospitality Management and Dr. Preeti Joshi, Associate Dean, MIT School of Liberal Arts.

Speaking at the inauguration of the exhibition Siddharth Deshmukh from Indo Japanese Business Council said, “The ‘I Love Sushi-Exhibition 2024’ presents a vibrant showcase of the metamorphosis of ‘Sushi’, unraveling its ancient origins from the moment it first graced the shores of Japan. It will display the myriad ways ‘Sushi’ has been enjoyed from traditional techniques to avant-garde creations with the help of interesting posters, photographs, and films”.    

“The traveling exhibition is usually organized in Asian cities which have the presence of a Japan Consulate or the Japan Embassy; however, we are extremely proud that Pune is the first city to get the distinction of hosting this exhibition even though it does not have a Japan Consulate or a Japan Embassy. One can watch the rich tapestry of Edo-style Sushi culture, where the iconic ‘nigirizushi’ was born during the Edo period, which is considered the golden era for ‘Sushi’ aficionados. The exhibition will also include a detailed display of a typical ‘Sushi’ restaurant counter along with the intriguing demonstration of a Kaiten-Sushi (conveyor-belt) Sushi restaurant”, he added.

Dr. Ravikumar Chitnis, VC, MIT WPU urged students to explore Japan, which has plenty of opportunities for skilled youngsters. He emphasized upon knowing the culture of Japan including the food habits, culture and language. He mentioned that Japan is the country that will take care of your three generations if you decide to make Japan your home and work there unlike any other countries in the world.
