Pune hosts The Poona Club Racquet League till June 10
Pune : In a unique initiative, the Poona Club Ltd has started an all-inclusive racquet league which includes all the sports where racquets are used like squash, tennis, table tennis and badminton. The league will be held between June 2 and 10 at the Club.
Speaking about the league, Ameya Kulkarni, Sports Chairman, Poona Club Ltd said, “ The racquet league is an intense and competitive sporting league. It will bring members on a common platform and help them bond as a team. Every match in the tie will be crucial. The racquet league is played after a gap of four years and will have intense competition. This unique league is formulated by its members and will include veterans, men, women and juniors participating in racquet sports as a team.”
A total of 135 players from six teams will play in the tournament. Players like Pavit Patheja (4200 pts, Lions), Titiksha Pawar (3700 pts, Panthers) were the most expensive players traded at the auction of the racquet league.
“Poona Club is the only club in the city to offer five different sporting leagues one in cricket, one in swimming, snooker, football and one in racquet sports for the good health and recreation of its members through sports, ” Kulkarni added.
