Various areas in Pune, including Pune City, Pimpri Chinchwad, and the rural areas, have been receiving rainfall.

In terms of specific locations, heavy rainfall has been recorded in Bibvewadi, Kothrud, the Peth area, NIBM, Shivajinagar, and Hadapsar in Pune City. Similarly, Moshi and Maval talukas of Pimpri Chinchwad in Pune Rural have also experienced heavy rainfall. However, it is worth noting that there has been a significant decrease in rainfall compared to last year, with 777 mm less rainfall this year.

The state of Maharashtra as a whole is expected to experience rainfall. Although August has been relatively dry, there is a possibility of rain in September. A low-pressure area is forming over the Bay of Bengal, which may bring rain to the Konkan region and Vidarbha. Rainfall is also expected in Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra. The extent and duration of this rainfall will depend on the movement of the low-pressure area.

According to Jyoti Sonar, a meteorologist from the Weather Forecasting Division of IMD Pune, ”The low pressure belt is moving from Vidarbha to South Karnataka. This movement is expected to bring moderate to light rainfall to Pune and its surroundings. Marathwada and Vidarbha will experience cloudy weather with thunderstorms, while Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra can expect heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours. Marathwada will receive rainfall from September 2 to September 5, while Vidarbha will experience rainfall until September 5. Pune City will have moderate to light rainfall for the next seven days; hence, a yellow alert has been issued.”
