Serious concerns have been raised over large-scale environmental damage in the Keshavnagar area, where hundreds of truckloads of construction debris are allegedly being dumped into the riverbed to create artificial land plots. The issue has been formally brought to the attention of the Pune Municipal Commissioner through a written complaint submitted by Shiv Sena Pune City Unit.

The complaint, addressed to the Municipal Commissioner and senior civic officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation, states that the illegal dumping is not only environmentally destructive but also poses a direct threat to public health and safety. Photographs published in newspapers reportedly show hundreds of trucks unloading construction waste into the riverbed, allegedly to create artificial plots.

Referring to a recent incident where a developer near the municipal headquarters was penalised ₹10 lakh and had the construction site sealed for similar violations, the Shiv Sena leaders questioned the प्रशासन’s silence in the Keshavnagar case despite the scale of the dumping being far more severe.

Environmental Risks Highlighted

According to the complaint, dumping debris in the riverbed can lead to:

* Increased risk of flooding during the monsoon

* Obstruction of natural water flow

* Damage to groundwater levels and ecological balance

* Destruction of river biodiversity

* Long-term water pollution and public health crises

The party stated that citizens have elected local governments to protect public health, safety, and the environment, and ignoring illegal activities in sensitive ecological zones like riverbeds is “deeply alarming”.

Key Demands

Shiv Sena Pune City Chief Pramod (Nana) Bhangire has demanded:

* Immediate registration of criminal cases against those responsible

* Sealing of the concerned sites

* Removal of all debris and encroachments from the riverbed

* Departmental inquiry against responsible officials

* Assessment of environmental damage and imposition of strict penalties

* Formation of a special task force to prevent future violations

The letter also warns that if the civic administration fails to take prompt and concrete action, Shiv Sena will launch a democratic public agitation to protect Pune’s environment.

“We will not allow anyone to play with the environmental safety of Pune city. If immediate steps are not taken, we will be forced to take to the streets in protest,” the statement said.
