Pune Incident: Nearly 20 Kids Found Locked Inside Hinjawadi Anganwadi, Viral Video Triggers Shock & Anger
Tension rippled through Hinjawadi on Tuesday after a troubling video emerged from a local Anganwadi, capturing young children in tears while trapped inside a locked room. The footage, now widely shared online, has unsettled parents and residents alike, raising urgent questions about safety standards in childcare centres that are supposed to protect the youngest members of the community.
The disturbing incident occurred at Anganwadi Number 3, where nearly 20 children were left confined for close to an hour between 11 AM and 12 PM. Their frightened cries and distressed faces are clearly visible in the video, leaving viewers horrified by the level of negligence displayed. What should have been a nurturing, supervised space became an isolated room filled with panic and fear.
Responsibility for the situation has been linked to the Anganwadi worker Savita Shinde and helper Shilpa Sakhare, who reportedly locked the children inside before leaving for a Gram Panchayat meeting. They claimed the meeting was “important” and required their attendance. However, locals and social media users strongly condemned the decision, pointing out that no meeting could justify abandoning children in such a vulnerable state. It later surfaced that the meeting had been called by a former Sarpanch, yet the expectation of safeguarding kids should have taken priority.

Once nearby citizens learned of the alarming situation, they immediately contacted the Mulshi Panchayat Samiti. Child Development Department official Dhanraj Giram quickly responded by directing the staff members to leave the meeting at once and unlock the centre. His swift action ensured the children were released without further delay.
With the video continuing to circulate online, attention has now shifted to what disciplinary measures will follow. Parents are preparing to file formal complaints, while the Child Development Department is expected to take strict action after reviewing the incident.
