Pune : Increased patrolling keeps drunkards in check at Konark Plaza society in Wagholi
Wagholi: Residents of Konark Plaza society on Kesnand road in Wagholi are facing problems due to drunkards consuming liquor at open spaces and they have filed a police complaint for that. Lonikand police station took immediate action on such people consuming liquor openly. The drunkards were proving a menace to women during the night and this step by the people was appreciated.
The letter written to Lonikand police states, “This is to raise a serious concern about harassment to residents through nuisance created by drunkards visiting Ghule Wines at Konark Plaza, Kesnand Road, Wagholi, Pune. Drunkards visiting Ghule Wine are causing a big nuisance to the residents in the neighbouring society. It is becoming increasingly difficult for residents and other shoppers to visit the Konark Plaza premises as tipplers consume alcohol in the open within the premises. Tipplers are also parking their vehicles haphazardly which is leading to traffic congestion. It is becoming very difficult to visit the Konark Plaza premise.”
Sandip Satav, general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha Pune District says, “People were openly consuming alcohol on this road. These drunkards would tease and pass comments on women coming to the medical, and grocery shops next to these liquor shops. Therefore, we complained to Lonikand Police Station and immediate action was taken on the issue. For the last two days, police have been patrolling the area and this should be continued.”
Devashish Bhowmick, secretary, Konark Plaza society says, “For the last 1.5 years, we have been facing this issue but it has increased in the last 1.5 months. These people are wrongly parking the vehicles and drinking in open space. So we decided to register a complaint and after that patrolling has started in the area. Currently, the issue is under control.”
On contacting the Lonikand office, an official said, “We are having two marshals in the area. Night patrolling is also happening.”
