The Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Power Yojana launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get up to 300 units of free electricity by installing a rooftop solar system on the roof of the house is getting a subsidy up to Rs 78,000. Rajendra Pawar, chief engineer of Mahavitaran’s Pune circle, appealed to the electricity consumers to take advantage of this scheme.

As per further information from MSEDCL, Chief Engineer Pawar said that Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed the MSEDCL to immediately implement this scheme, which provides free electricity to electricity consumers.

For rooftop solar systems, the electricity consumer gets a direct subsidy of Rs 30 thousand for one kilowatt, sixty thousand rupees for two kilowatt and Rs 78 thousand for three kilowatts from the central government. Irrespective of the capacity of roof top solar system installed by electricity consumers, the maximum total subsidy per consumer is fixed at Rs 78 thousand.

Mahavitaran helps electricity consumers in Maharashtra to install roof top solar systems. Customers are required to register online at the national portal https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in. A mobile app called PM Suryaghar is also available for this. This scheme has been started for one crore houses across the country and Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar has appealed to the electricity consumers to take advantage of the scheme as soon as possible.

A roof top solar system of one kilowatt capacity generates about four units of electricity per day or about 120 units per month. A roof top solar system with a capacity of up to two kilowatts is sufficient for a family consuming up to 150 units of electricity per month. A system of 2 to 3 kilowatts capacity is sufficient for a family that consumes 150 to 300 units of electricity per month.

The plan is to install a roof top solar power generation plant on the roof of the house to generate electricity using solar energy and use that electricity to meet the electricity requirement at home. In this, due to the generation of more electricity than required, the electricity bill comes to zero, i.e. the electricity is provided free of cost and the surplus electricity is sold to the MSEDCL to generate income.
