PUNE: The Regional Transport office in Pune have proposed to start share auto rickshaw service to connect metro stations from other parts of the city.

Under the guidance of Atul Ade, Regional Transport Office, Mayur Bhosekar, Sanjay Shirsat, Prakash Mule, Vidya Gurave, Traffic Department, Satish Nandurkar, Arjun Pawar, Santosh Kudle of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Manoj Kumar Danel of Metro, and President of Maharashtra Rickshaw Panchayat Baba Kamble, the survey was conducted. It was checked whether the space for parking autorickshaws around the operational metro stations is available. LAst mile connectivity is essential for the MEtro commuters.

The metro service has been started from Pimpri to Shivajinagar and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently. The government’s aim is to provide end-to-end connectivity for metro commuters to travel from station to interior areas and proposes to introduce ‘share rickshaws’ for this purpose.

Baba Shinde, president, Maharashtra Rickshaw Panchayat said, “Pimpri to Chikhli Pimpri to Kudarwadi, Pimpri to Gharkul, Pimpri to Nigdi, and Pimpri to Kalewadi Pimpri to Pimpri village, Sant Tukaram Nagar to DY Patil, YCM; Sant Tukaram Nagar to Yashwant Nagar, Nehru Nagar; Sant Tukaram Nagar to Pimpri Village; Kasarwadi Nashik Phata to Bhosari, Nashik Phata to Indrayani Nagar, Nashik Fata to MIDC, Nashik Phata to Pimple Gurav Nashik Phata to Kokane Chowk-Shivhar Chowk, Nashik Phata to Pimple Gurav, Nashik Phata to Kokane Chowk-Shivhar Chowk, Nashik Phata to Sangvi, New Sangvi, Old Sangvi; Phugewadi to Sangvi-Navi Sangvi, Old Sangvi; Dapodi to Navi Sangvi, Old Sangvi Dapodi to Bopkhel, Dapodi to Khadki.”

“Some organizations have opposed shared rickshaws; basically, this opposition is wrong, and it will also harm auto drivers and passengers. Share rickshaws are an option that has come up widely in India as well as abroad, and taxis are now using the share system. The share system allows for safe travel for less money, an option that is very good, as the Maharashtra Rickshaw Panchayat had earlier designated 16 roads as share rickshaw routes in Pimpri Chinchwad cities. This is benefiting the working class of Pimpri Chinchwad city, and this has increased the income of auto drivers. The share-a-rickshaw is also a great option for commuters and auto drivers for last connectivity from metro stations. This share rickshaw proposal is that three passengers will come together and travel by meter, and they will get 30 percent more fare. The rickshaw panchayat and all their rickshaw drivers and owners will fully participate in this scheme,” added Shinde.
