Pune, April 24, 2026:

A journalist in Pune narrowly escaped a serious attack after a suspected drunk driver rammed his vehicle and fled the scene near the CDO traffic signal at Golibar Maidan.

Journalist Anil Chaudhary was returning home after attending a press conference when the incident occurred on Kondhwa-Golibar Road. While waiting at a traffic signal, a pickup tempo (MH 12 JF 3639) allegedly crashed into the rear of his Maruti Suzuki Zen and an auto-rickshaw driven by Shayan.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the collision. According to Chaudhary, the tempo driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and fled immediately after the crash, raising concerns of an attempted murder.

A complaint has been registered at the Wanawadi Bazaar Police Chowki under the jurisdiction of Wanawadi Police Station.

During the investigation, Police Constable Mandar Mahadik traced the vehicle’s registration details to its previous owner, who informed that the tempo had been sold three years ago to an individual identified as Bablu Yadav. However, the suspect is currently untraceable and not responding to police calls.

“We are actively searching for him and will ensure strict legal action once he is apprehended,” Mahadik said.

Chaudhary has demanded stringent action against drunk driving, particularly by out-of-state vehicle operators, and called for increased vigilance by the Pune Police to prevent such incidents and ensure accountability.

Further investigation is underway.
