A one-of-a-kind exhibition, related to astronomy & space called Eyes on Space, has been organized by Jyotirvidya Parisanstha.

As per information from Aniruddha Deshpande, Member of Jyotirvidya Parisanstha, Pune, the objective of this exhibition is to introduce space observatories. Astronomical observatories have a history of thousands of years. Initially scientists used to record observations with unaided eye instruments.

After the discovery of telescopes, observatories with telescopes were developed. After space exploration started, many space observatories like Hubble Space Telescope, Spitzer Space Telescope, Chandra Telescope, James Webb Telescope are recording observations from space.

Visible light is a small part of the electromagnetic waves and astronomers record observations starting from gamma rays to radio waves. Out of these electromagnetic waves, visible light and radio waves can reach the surface of earth whereas other waves are absorbed by the atmosphere of the earth. Hence to make observations in other wavelengths, they need to put telescopes in the space itself.

This exhibition will give information on how these space observatories work, how they try to solve the puzzle of the universe by taking observations through these observatories. Exhibition consists of models of space telescopes from each wavelength, posters giving information on the same as well as short films. Also, the main attraction is the solar observatory by India ‘Aditya L1’ which will be launched next month.

The fees for this exhibition are Rs 10/- for students up to 10th Standard & Rs 20/- for everyone beyond that. Pre-registration is required. To register, interested can find a QR code on the poster, which leads to a Google form from where people can select slots & payment can be done online or on site.

Thus, this informative exhibition will begin from 24th August to 27th August from 10 am to 8 pm for all at Yashvantrao Chavan Theatre Art Gallery.
