Kalyani Nagar Residents Accuse Pub Owners of Violating Soundproofing Measures as PMC Removes Wooden Barriers

In a surprising turn of events following the recent agreement between Kalyani Nagar residents and club owners to address noise pollution concerns, Kalyani Nagar residents have complained that some pub owners have broken the agreement by breaking the soundproof measures installed in the pub.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Monica S, Resident of Kalyani Nagar, said “The abrupt demolition of Elrow’s soundproofing reflects a lack of consistency in noise control measures. Residents have experienced a little peace after so long. The complaints against rooftop restaurants have been going on for years now. PMC must prioritise community welfare over vested interests, ensuring a fair and transparent approach. PMC and the excise department should consider cancellation of licenses for repeated violations. Our neighbourhood deserves better, and it’s time to demand accountability for the sake of our quality of life.”

A Kalyani Nagar resident, requesting anonymity, said “The demolition of Elrow’s soundproofing is a setback for us. We were finally beginning to experience relief from the constant noise, and now it seems like our efforts have been in vain.”

“PMC’s inconsistent stance on rooftop licenses and noise pollution is perplexing. Instead of addressing the root cause, it seems like they are targeting efforts that were actually improving the situation,” stated another resident.

As per information, the incident, centered around Waters Pub and Elrow Pub owners, has sparked accusations of an unfair exercise of power and influence. It has been alleged that Waters Pub provided a tip that resulted in PMC’s decision to demolish the soundproofing measures implemented by Elrow Pub. These soundproofing efforts had offered much-needed respite to the residents, shielding them from the incessant barrage of loud music.

Kalyani Nagar residents have expressed their disappointment over PMC’s handling of the situation, claiming that the decision appears to be influenced by powerful connections rather than a genuine concern for the well-being of the community. The altercation between the two pub owners has underscored the ongoing challenges faced by residents in their quest for a peaceful living environment.

The incident has ignited a larger debate about the transparency and fairness of PMC’s actions. As the controversy unfolds, community members are calling for a thorough review of the decision-making process and the influence of vested interests.

However, Sanjay Gurung, Owner of Elrow Pub, Kalyani Nagar has denied the allegations by stating “Last month, we had accepted an agreement between Kalyani Nagar residents & pub owners. We are following that agreement & have installed soundproof measures on the walls of the pub. We have not flouted the agreement & will never break the agreement.”

Pune Pulse tried contacting the relevant PMC official but couldn’t connect.
