Pune: Kalyani Nagar Residents Plagued by Frequent Power Outages
Frustrated residents demand action as electrical blackouts disrupt daily life in Pune.

Residents of Kalyani Nagar in Pune find themselves grappling with persistent electrical blackouts, posing significant challenges to daily life and well-being. The root causes of these recurrent outages as per the residents, include ongoing road construction, usage of transformers and inadequate maintenance, which have left residents in a state of frustration and distress.
The situation has escalated to alarming levels, with power disruptions lasting for more than 15 hours on numerous occasions as per the statement given by the residents. They claim that such prolonged outages severely impact their productivity and overall quality of life, prompting them to doubt Pune’s status as a Smart City amidst the unreliable electricity supply.

Aditya Patil, a resident of Kalyani Nagar, has given a statement, “The unreliable power supply in Kalyani Nagar is a daily struggle for us residents. We’re tired of enduring frequent outages that disrupt our work, study and household chores. It’s frustrating to see our productivity suffer and our quality of life diminish due to something as basic as electricity. We feel neglected by the authorities and demand better infrastructure to support our growing community. The constant power cuts are unacceptable, and it’s time for the government to take concrete steps to ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply for Kalyani Nagar.”
In response to the allegations made by many such residents of Kalyani Nagar, the electricity officer, MSEDCL Kamble, who looks after the Wadgaon Sheri region along with the Airport road area, states that there is no such case where the electricity has been out for 15 hours. The main reasons for the power outage are soaring temperatures in the city, usage of heavy power appliances such as air conditioners and coolers for long hours which have increased the load on electricity supply, thereby causing power outages frequently.
However, the department is working towards solving the issue of power outages in as less time as possible consistently.
In light of these challenges, residents emphasise the urgent need for concerted efforts from authorities to address the underlying issues. The community remains hopeful that swift action will be taken to restore reliable electricity supply and mitigate the disruptions that have become all too common in their daily lives.
