Pune: Kalyani Nagar Residents Urge Police Commissioner To Intensify Patrolling
Pune, February 24, 2026: Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN), a citizens’ group, has submitted a formal representation to Amitesh Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Pune, seeking urgent measures to strengthen policing and traffic management in Kalyani Nagar. A copy of the letter has also been sent to Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil.
In the letter dated February 24, 2026, the group expressed appreciation for the police department’s ongoing efforts to streamline traffic in the area but highlighted several persistent issues affecting pedestrians and motorists.
Key Demands Raised by Residents
Opening of DP Roads:
TSKN has requested the opening of two Development Plan (DP) roads — one connecting Gunjan Talkies in Yerwada to HSBC, South Avenue in Kalyani Nagar, and another linking Holy Cross Road near St. Arnold’s School in Vadgaonsheri to the D-Mart lane in Kalyani Nagar — to ease congestion.
Commercial Growth Without Parking:
The group flagged concerns over commercial establishments operating without adequate parking infrastructure, stating that this has worsened traffic disorder, blocked emergency access routes and created safety risks for pedestrians.
Enhanced Police Visibility:
Residents have sought stronger and more visible patrolling by local police and the Crime Branch to deter rash driving, illegal activities and late-night disturbances.
Randomised Naka Bandis:
While acknowledging ongoing checks, the group has recommended conducting naka bandis at unpredictable locations and times, especially during late hours, to improve enforcement effectiveness.
Traffic Violation Drives at GA Chowk:
TSKN has called for regular surprise drives at GA Chowk to curb signal jumping, overspeeding, drunk driving and wrong-side driving. Residents believe consistent enforcement would instil long-term traffic discipline.
Closure of Puncture Near Ramwadi Underpass:
The letter also seeks action against a puncture repair setup located opposite Gera 77 near the Ramwadi underpass on East Avenue. According to residents, it disrupts vehicular flow between Kalyani Nagar and Viman Nagar, contributing to congestion and posing safety risks, particularly for two-wheeler riders.
Modified Silencer Nuisance:
The group has further complained about harassment caused by motorcycles fitted with modified silencers that generate excessive noise in residential areas.
TSKN has urged immediate and concrete action in the interest of public safety and smooth traffic movement. The group said it looks forward to a response and an action plan from the Pune Police to address the growing concerns in Kalyani Nagar.
