The Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, also known as Katraj Zoo is one of the major attraction for tourists, especially children. 

It has recently bought in 3 new wild animals with the aim to increase breeding and pairing of animals In the Zoo. One male leopard, two males and two females, four-horned antelopes and a male hyena are the new animals welcomed by the zoo.

Rajkumar Jadhav, director of Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park said, “Pairing of animals is helpful for them to dwell around. The Zoo is going to be expanded and a master plan is being prepared. These varieties of animals are also helpful for carrying out scientific studies and research. A new exhibit has been built for sheltering these newly arrived animals. Attempts are being made to upgrade facilities, use of new technologies in animal health care and concentrate on research pertaining to different aspects of wildlife.”

The male leopard has been bought to be paired with the three existing female leopards, two males and two females four-horned antelopes are to be paired with the existing three male and one female antelope and the Hyena has been bought to be paired with two existing Hyenas. 

Recently, on January 7th 2024, a Leopard and two-striped Hyenas were brought to the zoo by the civic body. 

The new animals are kept under shelter whereas the leopard is under quarantine and will soon be released.
