Pune: Know Your Candidates Meet Organized by Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar
In anticipation of the upcoming Maharashtra legislative assembly elections on 20 November 2024, Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN) had organized a “Know Your Candidates” meet, drawing 67 engaged citizens who posed pertinent questions to local candidates.
Held at the Aumni Techworks premises in Kalyani Nagar, the event provided a platform for residents to discuss their concerns and present a comprehensive Charter of Demands focused on local improvements in infrastructure, water supply, waste management, traffic, pollution control, and governance.
Candidates in attendance included Sunil Tingre (NCP-Ajit Pawar), Bapu Pathare (NCP-Sharad Pawar), and Hulgesh Chalwadi (Bahujan Samajwadi Party).
Each listened attentively to the citizens’ demands. As most of the demands fell under the corporator’s purview and Pune has been without corporators for the past three years due to delayed municipal elections, leaving residents to question whom they should approach for local issues. The nominated candidates did assure us of help wherever needed.
The event underscored the ongoing challenges of representation, as both major candidates belong to larger party alliances, which has left voters in Kalyani Nagar feeling unsure about where their local interests will be prioritized.
TSKN Chairperson Rachna Agarwal reiterated the group’s commitment, stating, “Regardless of who wins, TSKN will work with them to ensure Kalyani Nagar is clean and well-maintained.”
TSKN expressed gratitude to the candidates, residents, and press members for their participation, and remained steadfast in advocating for Kalyani Nagar’s civic needs, regardless of the election outcome.
