A 37-year-old man from Bhagyodayanagar in Kondhwa, Pune, has fallen prey to a cyber scam, losing Rs 26 lakh to fraudsters promising high returns on stock market investments.

According to the Kondhwa Police, the victim received a call on his mobile phone in September from unknown individuals claiming to offer lucrative investment opportunities in the stock market. The scammers convinced the young man to deposit money into their account, promising substantial returns.

The victim, enticed by the promise of good returns, deposited money into the scammers’ account on multiple occasions. Initially, the fraudsters refunded some amount to gain his trust. However, over the past four months, the victim has not received any returns on his investment of Rs 26 lakh.

Realizing he had been cheated, the young man filed a complaint with the Kondhwa Police Station. Inspector Suraj Bendre (Crime) is investigating the matter further.

The incident serves as a warning to citizens to be cautious of unsolicited investment offers, especially those promising unusually high returns. Police advise individuals to verify the authenticity of such schemes before investing and report suspicious activities to prevent similar frauds.
