Pune: Over 1000 consumers of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) were plunged into darkness due to power cut for 30 hours in Lohegaon. As per the information, the power went off on June 26 early morning and was restored on June 27 afternoon.

Sarangdhar Kenekar, Executive Engineer, Vishrantwadi Sub Division told Pune Pulse that two transformers stopped working. “Despite our efforts, we could not start them. The incoming supply from the main feeder that supplies electricity to the area in Sathe Vasti, Lohegaon Gaothan also failed to work thereafter. One by one we restored 90 percent of the connections. However, the feeder at Sathe Vasti stopped working again during nighttime. The conductor failed to work. Our repeated attempts to restart it failed due to the moisture caused by the rains. A testing van was also called to resolve the issue. While we were working on this issue a 22kv cable broke near Sathe Vasti. Our problems kept on mounting. However, we were able to restore the power on Tuesday afternoon,” he said.

Ashish Tambe, Chairman, Tranquil Park, said more than 1000 residents were affected. He further said, “Numerous calls and tweets went unnoticed. We handed a letter to the MSEDCL officials demanding relief from these power cuts. We also requested them to attend the calls made by the consumers. About a year ago, we had a power outage for 72 hours. The essential items in the refrigerator such as dairy items and medicines had to be thrown away due to power cuts. Also, senior citizens, medical patients, and pregnant women faced severe difficulties.

He further stated that societies like Pratham Yash, Park String, and 7 to 8 standalone buildings were also affected due to power outages.
