Pune MahaMetro Expansion: Nigdi Terminal Platforms To Make Way For Metro StationĀ
The Pune Mahametro project has commenced work on its extended route from Nigdi to Pimpri, with Bhakti-Shakti mural chowk setting up a metro station at the chowk. This development aims to enhance connectivity and reduce travel times for commuters. However, the Anna Bhau Sathe Terminal of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) in Nigdi poses a hindrance. To resolve this, two of the terminal’s five platforms will be demolished to make way for the metro station. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh has approved the demolition in the general body meeting.
“The demolition is necessary as the platforms obstruct the metro station’s construction,” said Executive Engineer Bapusaheb Gaikwad. “If Mahametro doesn’t rebuild the platforms, the Municipal Corporation will, and the costs will be recovered from Mahametro.”
The 7.5 km metro line from Dapodi to Pimpri is part of the extended Swargate to Pimpri route. Work on erecting the first pillar is underway, with security fences installed and trees, lamp posts, and traffic signals removed. This expansion will improve accessibility and convenience for residents.
The terminal’s demolition will impact PMPML bus operations, as Nigdi serves as a hub for routes connecting Pune. To mitigate traffic disruptions, authorities have granted permission to demolish the obstructing platforms. A pillar of the metro is being erected at the moment.
Key developments in the Pune Mahametro expansion include the demolition of two platforms at the Democratic Anna Bhau Sathe Terminal, which will be rebuilt by Mahametro post-completion. The extended metro route will now stretch from Swargate to Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi, with the 7.5 km metro line from Dapodi to Pimpri already operational. Additionally, security fences have been installed, and pillar erection and tree removal are underway.
The Pune Mahametro expansion promises enhanced connectivity and reduced travel times. With the upcoming metro station at Shilp Chowk, residents can expect improved accessibility and convenience.
