Police Crack Down On Dahi Handi Celebrations Using Laser Lights, Four Cases FiledÂ
The Pune Police have begun filing cases against Dahi Handi celebration organizers who defied the ban on using dangerous laser lights during the festival. Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma had previously ordered a 60-day ban on laser lights due to potential risks to pilots at the nearby Air Force base and civil airport in Lohgaon.
Despite the ban, several groups flouted the order, prompting the police to take action. On Tuesday, it was observed that many circles celebrating Dahi Handi had used laser lights, violating the police order. Additionally, sound level limits were exceeded by erecting sound absorber walls.
Complaints poured in to the Pune Police control room, with 12 lodged by Tuesday night regarding noise pollution and laser light usage. Officials from the Special Branch of the Pune Police confirmed that cases were registered against four circles in Pune Police Circle Two and Circle Five for defying orders and using laser lights and loudspeakers.
To enforce the ban, Senior Inspectors from all city police stations were instructed by Joint Commissioner Sharma to videograph offenders. The police department had issued warnings and conducted awareness campaigns prior to the crackdown. “We will strictly enforce the ban to ensure public safety and prevent potential risks to air traffic,” said Joint Commissioner Sharma. The police will continue to monitor celebrations and take action against violators.
The ban on laser lights is crucial, as there is a possibility of serious accidents due to laser lights shining into pilots’ eyes. With the Air Force base and civil airport in proximity, the police are taking no chances.
The action against violators demonstrates the police department’s commitment to maintaining public safety and order during festivals.
